Subjects with congenital anosmia have larger peripheral but similar central trigeminal responses.
Most odorants not only stimulate olfactory receptor neurons but also activate the intranasal trigeminal nerve. The simultaneous activation of the olfactory and the trigeminal system leads to an interaction in the brain. Therefore, assessment of the trigeminal impact of odorants may be difficult in subjects with a normal sense of smell. To obtain a deeper insight into both, mechanisms of changes...
متن کاملClinical Features of Congenital Anosmia
The objective of the study was to evaluate the clinical features of congenital anosmia. We retrospectively analyzed 205 patients at our hospital for olfactory disturbances over a 4-year period. The overall prevalence of congenital anosmia was found to be 3.4% (7/205). Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed the absence of the olfactory bulbs, tracts, and hypoplasia of the olfactory sul...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Imaging Findings of a Patient with Congenital Anosmia
We present a case of congenital anosmia in a 23-year-old man. He was unable to sense smell since birth. He showed scale-out results on T&T olfactogram. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detected absence of the olfactory bulbs, tracts, and hypoplasia of the olfactory sulci. MRI findings were useful for diagnosing and confirming congenital anosmia.

Temporomandibular joint disorder is characterized by peripheral and central sensitization of trigeminal nociceptive neurons. Although CGRP is implicated in the development of central sensitization by stimulating glial activation via its receptor, the mechanism by which CGRP promotes and maintains sensitization of trigeminal nociceptive neurons is not well understood. The goal of my study was to...
متن کاملMR evaluation of patients with congenital hyposmia or anosmia.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate patients with reduced or no sense of smell since birth for sites of abnormality by MR imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five patients who reported no olfactory function since birth were evaluated by olfactory testing, sinonasal endoscopy, and MR imaging. Surface coil and head coil images of the olfactory bulbs, olfactory tracts, subfront...
